On October 3, 2005, the USPS, for the first time, issued a set of four stamps to commemorate Constellations....Leo the Lion, Pegasus, Lyra, and Orion. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp featuring Orion, the most recognized constellation in the winter sky, cancelled from the city of issue (Bloomfield Hills, MI) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark created for the cancellation of these stamps on the first day.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a picture of Orion the Hunter taken from a 17th century sky chart. It's printed on silk, surrounded by gold embossing. We think the beauty of the stamps plus the stunning silk cachet add up to a most wondrous piece of space memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it will fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
