On September 15, 2002, the USPS issued a stamp to honor 'The Dean of the American Song,' Irving Berlin. Prolific, talented, Berling wrote hundreds of songs as well as scores for the theater and movies. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with his stamp cancelled form the city of issue (New York City) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Berlin rendered inwatercolors. A collectible and historic piece of American Music memorabilia, this cover pays tribute to one of the musicians who gave the world 'The American Popular Song.'
