On July 3, 1978, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the birth of one of America's most brilliant songwriters, George M. Cohan. Known as the 'Yankee Doodle Boy', Cohan, who was probably born on July 3rd, celebrated his birthday on July 4th. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with his stamp cancelled form the city of issue (Providence, RI - his place of birth) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a Cohan collage celebrating this versatile playwright, songwriter, stage director, producer, actor, and dancer. The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary, which we've included. A collectible, historic piece of American Music memorabilia, this cover pays tribute to one of the musicians who gave the world 'The American Popular Song.'
Double matted in blue & white, it will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
