Charlie Chaplin.... On February 3, 1998, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the " King of the Silent Screen", Charlie Chaplin. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Washington, DC) on the first day of issue
captioned above. The humor & artistry of Chaplin was one of fifteen
events selected to represent the first decade of the 20th century in
the 150 stamp series called Celebrate the Century.
Note the special postmark with the Celebrate the Century logo and Decade
of 1900-1910 - created to cancel this set of 15 stamps on their
'birthday.'
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Charlie Chaplin in character as 'The Little Tramp. Pristine, unaddressed, this cover is a collectible, historic piece of movie and postal memorabilia.
