Bob Hope... On May 29, 2009, the USPS issued a stamp to honor legendary comedian - Bob Hope.
Star of the 'big screen' and 'little screen', Hope is loved most for
the time and effort he made to entertain the servicemen and women of
American over several decades. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting a dapper Hope in tux sporting his famous grin, cancelled from the city of issue (San Diego, CA) on the first day of issue
captioned above. Note the delightful postmark featuring both a
caricature of Hope plus a facsimile of his signature, expressly
designed to cancel his stamp on its 'birthday.'
The cachet
(artwork on the envelope) features a makeshift stage with microphone
and golf club, a laughing audience of service troops appreciatively
looking on. It's printed on silk surrounded by an embossed gold border.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
