Clyde Cessna not only built his first plane at a young age, he taught himself to fly. After developping a cantilevered-wing monoplane, he formed the Cessna Aircraft Company, famous for its Model A series monoplanes, racing gliders, and low-cost primary gliders. Forced to close during the Depression, Cessna restarted years later introducing the CR-1 racer, and then the CR-3 Racer.  Shown here is a Commemorative Cover to celebrate his induction into the International Aerospace Hall of Fame on August 20, 1983.

On a commemorative cover, the stamp is immaterial; it's only there because the Post Office will not cancel unless there is current postage.  On this cover an airmail Wright Brothers stamp issued in 1978 was used. The postmark is from Red Oak, Iowa, near Cessna's birthplace, and the date "freezes" his induction date into the Hall of Fame.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a  portrait of Cessna as well as one of his famous monoplanes, the Chief. The producer of this cover has written a short commentary about Cessna, which we, in turn, have included.

Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus Commentary Included***
