American Circus Bicentennial - Emmett Kelly.... On April 6, 1993, the USPS issued a set of four stamps celebrating the 200th anniversary of the American Circus. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps (Aerialist, Elephant, Ringmaster, and Clown) cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features, perhaps the greatest clown of all - Emmett Kelly (1898-1979) as his hobo persona, Weary Willie.
A great circus combo - Emmett Kelly and a dazzling postal tribute to
the 200th Anniversary of the American Circus, first appearing in
Philadelphia in 1793. The producer of this cover has also written a
brief commentary about the American Circus, which we've included.
Double matted in blue and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. *** Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
