On May 23, 1984, Australia issued a set of four full-color stamps honoring the Great Clipper Ships of the World....the Cutty Sark, the Orient, the Thermopylae, and the Sobraon. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for the Orient, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Melbourne, Australia) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features superb artwork of another of the world' great sailing ships, the Lightning, under full sail, by one of the world's foremost maritime artists, Charles Lungren. Great art, unaddressed, this cover is a collectible, historic piece of sailing memorabilia celebrating the bygone age of great clipper ships. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about the Orient, which we've included.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
