Classic Mail Transportation - 20th Universal Postal Congress...... On
November 28, 1989, the United States Postal Service issued two
different sets of stamps - four stamps in each - to commemorate the 20th Universal Postal Congress
held in Washington DC. For the first time in 92 years, the US played
host to more than 1,000 delegates from most of the member nations of the Universal Postal Union. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps depicting Classic Mail Transportation (Biplane, Stagecoach, Paddle Wheel Steamer, and Depot-Hack Type Automobile,) cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows, in addition to the plane, three
different modes of delivery - sail-steam boat, train, and pony
express. The picture is done in water colors by award-winning cachet
artist Sue Allen.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included*** |
