On October 24, 2005, Rosa Parks died at her Detroit home at the age of 92. From her refusal to give up her seat to a white man on a Montgomery, Alabama bus in 1955 to being the first woman to lie in state in the Capital Rotunda, Rosa Parks was a symbol of what 'one person could do' to fight a legacy of injustice. Awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1996 and the Congressional Gold Medal in 1999, this tiny woman serves as a hero of gigantic proportions to Americans of all colors. On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp merely serves the purpose of supplying current postage. What's important is the cancellation, for it 'freezes' a time and place that an event occurred.
Shown here is a Commemorative Cover, an envelope with the 2005 stamp commemorating the Montgomery Bus Boycott cancelled from Detroit on the day of her death captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a full-color photo of a smiling Rosa Parks. It's printed on silk, the luster lending an-almost three dimensional quality to the picture. Below the cancellation is a brief commentary about Rosa Parks. Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of African-American memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, we've sized this to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. At Wall Art Collectibles we size our mat to standard sizes giving you the flexibility of choosing your own frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
