Year of the Dog - 1946, 1958, 1970, 1982, 1994, 2006.....On February 5, 1994, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the Year of the Dog in the Chinese New Year. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp, depicting a Pekingese, the royal dog of China, cancelled from the city of issue (Pomona, CA) on the first day of issue captioned above. All stamps in this series were designed by artist Clarence Lee, who created an innovative, yet traditional look, by combining paper-cut type designs with calligraphy.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts a costumed character used in New Year parades as well as a dog.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 X 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
