The US postal stamp for Chicago Bears' Coach George Halas was issued individually on August 16, 1997 after having been issued with three other football coaches (Vince Lombardi, Bear Bryant, and Pop Warner) a month before on July 25, 1997 out of Canton, Ohio. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope cancelled from the city of issue (Chicago, IL) on the first day of issue captioned above. If you look closely at this stamp, there is a red line above Halas' name. On his stamp issued in July 1997, there is no red line. This is true for the stamps of the other three coaches.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Halas and his Bears. The only other Professional Football Coach to be honored with a stamp to date is Vince Lombardi. Overall, Halas won 325 games, including five NFL championships. The producer of this cover has also written a short commentary about Halas which we've included.
Double matted in blue and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
