On June 3, 1970, the Royal Mail
of Great Britain issued four stamps to honor the premier author of the
Victorian age...Charles
Dickens on the 100th anniversary of his death (he actually died
June 9, 1870.) Shown here
is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all
four stamps illustrating four characters from four of his many
novels....Pickwick
from The Pickwick
Papers; Micawber,
modeled after Dickens' own father, from David Copperfield; David Copperfield
from David
Copperfield; and Oliver from Oliver Twist. The stamps are cancelled from
the city of issue
(Harrow and Wembly) on the first
day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet depicts a
portrait of Dickens with a facsimile of signature on the bottom.
Historic, collectible,
it's double matted in blue & white and
