On May 19, 1947, the USPS issued a souvenir sheet to not only commemorate the International Philatelic Exhibition held in New Yor City, but to also honor the 100th Anniversary of the First United States Postage Stamps. The Souvenir sheet depicts reproductions of the first two US postage stamps - a 5 cents Benjamin Franklin and a ten cents George Washington. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the souvenir sheet cancelled from the city of issue (New York, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Franklin by James B. Longacre, which served as the inspiration for the 5 cents 1847 stamp. In perfect condition, this cover is a collectible, historic piece of US postal memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
