On October 18, 1994, the USPS issued a set of 20 stamps called Legends of the West. This stamp is one of those and honors legendary Texas Ranger, trail driver and cattle baron...Charles Goodnight. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Laramie, Wyoming) on the first day of issue captioned above. In short, it's the 'birthday' of the stamp - a collectible, historic piece of postal and Western memorabilia.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Goodnight, the brand from the JA Ranch (he and his paartner John G. Adair at one time ran 100,000 head of cattle over a million acres), and family photos. He developed the nation's best-blooded herds through the introduction of Hereford bulls, helped to prevent the extinction of the buffalo, and had the town of Goodnight, Texas named after him.
Double matted in blue "denim" & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY PLUS A SHORT COMMENTARY ABOUT GOODNIGHT INCLUDED***
