On April 30, 1900, at the hamlet of Vaughan, Mississippi, the Illinois Central's New Orleans express slammed into a stalled freight train on the main line. The accident caused no serious injuries, but did claim the life of engineer, John Luther Jones...'Casey' Jones. This splendid art print captures all the drama of Engine No. 382 barrelling down the "S" curve toward disaster at 75 mph.....40 mph faster than normal speed!
To further add to the history of the piece, we've added three uncancelled, collectible U.S. stamps. The Steam Locomotive stamp was issued in 1982, the Caboose in 1984. The middle stamp commemorates Railroad Engineers of America, features 'Casey' Jones, and was issued in 1950.
Matted in blue, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***A short commentary of this event is included***
