Brain, Elkhorn, Chalice and Finger Coral.....
On August 26, 1980, the USPS issued a set of four stamps celebrating some of the amazing kinds of Coral found in waters off the U.S and American Protectorates....Brain Coral from the Virgin Islands, Elkhorn Coral from Florida, Chalice Coral from American Samoa, and Finger Coral from Hawaii. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four of the stamps in the series, cancelled from the city of issue ( Charlotte Amalie, Virgin Islands) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts a full-color drawing showing a variety of coral and tropical fish. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about these extraordinary animals.
