Daylight
-'The Most Beautiful Train in the World'... On August 26, 1999, the USPS issued a set
of five stamps celebrating five different historic passenger trains.
Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover,
an envelope with the stamp commemorating the
Daylight, the leader of Southern
Pacific's fleet of passenger trains, cancelled
from the city of issue (Cleveland, Ohio) on the first day of
issue captioned above. In its first year of operation, 250,000
passengers rode the Daylight and in 1940 it was named America's most
popular train service.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features
the legendary red & black engine. Great art, unaddressed, this
cover is a collectible, historic piece of railroad and
postal memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white,
this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.
