A Postal Tribute to the Civil Rights Movement....

On August 30, 2005, the USPS issued a Souvenir Sheet of ten stamps to commemorate people and events that made up the Civil Rights Movement from the 1940's through the 1960's.  Called "To Form a More Perfect Union", these ten stamps are shown here on a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamps cancelled from all Eight Cities of Issue.

Begining at the upper left there is the stamp commemorating the integration of the armed forces in 1948 - this stamp was cancelled in Washington DC. Below it is the stamp commemorating the Lunch Counter Sit-Ins in 1960 - this stamp was cancelled in Greensboro, NC. The next stamp commemorates the Montgomery Bus Boycott in 1955 and is cancelled in Montgomery, AL.  Below it is the stamp celebrating the Civil Rights Act of 1964, cancelled in Memphis, TN.  To its right is the stamp commemorating the March on Washington in 1963, again cancelled in Washington DC.  Next to it is the stamp commemorating the Selma March in 1965, cancelled in Selma, AL.  To its right is Brown V. Board of Education 1954 cancelled in Topeka, KS.  Above it is the stamp honoring Freedom Riders in 1961 - its cancelled in Jackson, MS.  Above it is the stamp honoring the Little Rock Nine in 1957 and is cancelled in Little Rock, AR.  Finally, the last stamp commemorates the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and is cancelled in Washington DC.

The center of this Souvenir Sheet features a small portrait of Martin Luther King, Jr. withone of his famous quotations. These ten stamps tell the history of a movement, the history of a people, and the history of America.  Wall Art Collectibles is proud to offer this piece of Black History.

Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 11 X 14 frame.   ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY INCLUDED***
