On January 6, 2005, the USPS reissued the entire set of 12 stamps commemorating the Chinese New Year, which had been previously issued over a twelve year period beginning in 1992 with the Year of the Cock (Rooster) and ending in 2004 with the Year of the Monkey. Shown here is an oversized envelope with the Souvenir Sheet ( a stamp or multiple stamps surrounded by extra artwork) of all twelve stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Honolulu, HI) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the unique postmark created for the cancellation of this set of stamps on their 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private comapny other than the post office) is rendered in watercolors by award-winning artist Sue Allen, and depicts the entire Chinese Zodiac of twelve animals. We've included a close-up picture of this superb cachet. To see close-ups of individual stamps, look at the individual listing for each animal first day cover in this category. The combination of the spectacular souvenir sheet with all twelve stamps, featuring the paper-cut designs and calligaraphy by Hawaiian artist, Clarence Lee, cancelled on the first day of issue, plus an outstnading cachet make this piece truly a collectible 'feast for the eye.'
Double matted in blue & white, this piece is sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
