Charles H. Kaman perfected a model of the helicopter rotor system and founded his own business in 1945, introducing their first production helicopter, the K-225 in 1949. One of the company's most notable successes was the H-43 Husky, the only military helicpoter to go through its entire service with no loss of life or accidents attributed to the aircraft's design. Other achievements include the first all-composite rotor blade and the first remote-controlled helicopter.
On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp is immaterial; it's only there because the Post Office will not cancel unless there is current postage. On this cover an airmail Wright Brothers stamp, issued in 1978, was used as well as the 1957 USAF stamp. The postmark is from Washington DC, where Kaman was born and raised, on April 17, 1999, the date Kaman was inducted into the San Diego Aerospace Museum's International Aerospace Hall of Fame.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Charles H. Kaman and one of his helicopters. The producer of this cover has written a short commentary about Kaman, which we, in turn, have included.
Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus Commentary Included***
