On September 9, 1977, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the 1st Civil Settlement in Alta California.  Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp, cancelled from the city of issue (San Jose, CA) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) shows the group of fourteen families and a few soldiersled by Lieutenant Jose Joaquin Moraga.  They eventually founded the Pueblo de San Jose de Guadalupe on the spot that is now San Jose, California.  The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about this event, which we've included.

Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
