On July 15, 2006, the USPS issued a set of four stamps honoring Baseball Sluggers - Roy Campanella, Mickey Mantle, Mel Ott, and Hank Greenberg. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp for Roy Campanella cancelled from the city of issue (Bronx, New York) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark of a 'slugger' designed expressly to cancel this set of stamps on their 'birthday.'
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a bat, glove, and baseball with 'Roy Campanella' on it. It's printed on silk, the luster lending an-almost three dimensional quality to the picture and a vibrancy to the color.
We have paired this First Day Cover with a full-color photo print of "Campy" - who hit 242 home runs during his ten-year career with the Brooklyn Dodgers. Three-time National League MVP, Roy Campanella was also the first black catcher in the history of Major League Baseball. Historic, collectible, Campanella follows Jackie Robinson as the second Brooklyn Dodger to be honored with a U.S. stamp.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 11x14 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
