On February 1, 1980, the USPS issued a set of four stamps commemorating the sports of Speed Skating, Skiing, Ski Jumping and Ice Hockey at the Winter Olympic Games held in Lake Placid, New York. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with all four stamps cancelled from the city of issue (Lake Placid, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above. If the year 1980 and the place, Lake Placid, is ringing a bell, these are the Olympic Games that witnessed the US upsetting the Soviet Union for the Hockey Gold Medal.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the sport of Bobsledding, the "Champagne of Thrills." The producer of this cover has also written a short commentary on Bobsledding...a copy has been made for you. Historic, collectible, this is truly a great piece of Bobsledding, and 1980 Winter Olympics Memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included ***
