Sojourner Truth....
On February 4, 1967, the USPS issued a stamp to honor abolitionist and reformer Sojourner Truth. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New Paltz, N.Y. - site of the Sojourner Truth Library) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Truth. Underneath it says, "Known for her quick wit and inspiring faith, she was the first black woman to speak out against slavery." The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about this charismatic orator, which we've included. Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of African-American memorabilia.
Double matted in green & white, we've sized this to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. At Wall Art Collectibles we size our mat to standard sizes giving you the flexibility of choosing your own frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY PLUS COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
