On September 11, 1996, the USPS issued a set of four stamps to honor four Big Band Leaders..... Glenn Miller, Count Basie, Benny Goodman, and Tommy & Jimmy Dorsey. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp for Benny Goodman cancelled from the city of issue (New York, NY) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) features a photo of clarinetist and orchestra leader Benny Goodman. The producer of this cover has written a brief commentary about the "King of Swing", whose music defined a generation; we've included a copy. Historic, collectible, this is a great piece of Big Band and postal memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
