Benjamin O. Davis after graduating from West Point in 1936, became one of only two black line officers in the U.S. Army...the other one was his father. He became the first black Air Force General, was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and was instrumental in pioneering airport security. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover to celebrate this military pilot.
On a commemorative cover, the stamp is immaterial; it's only there because the Post Office will not cancel unless there is current postage. The postmark is from Washington DC. Davis' birthplace, on March 16, 1996.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Davis and the insignia of the 332nd Fighter Group, which he commanded, flying over 15,000 sorties and losing only 66 aircraft.
Matted in blue, this piece is sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included plus Commentary Included***
