Shiloh.... On June 29, 1995, the USPS issued a set of twenty stamps
commemorating people and events of the Civil War. One of the events
commemorated was the battle of Shiloh, a narrow win for the Union with heavy losses on
both sides. Shown here is a genuine First
Day Cover, an envelope with the new
stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Gettysburg) on the first
day of issue captioned above. Note the Special Cancellation
designed for this set of stamps.
The cachet (artwork on
the envelope) features Confederate soldiers - one holding the
Confederate battle flag while another assists an injured soldier. The
picture is printed on silk
surrounded by an embossed gold border.
Double matted in blue & white,
it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate
of Authenticity Included***
