On January 8, 1965, the USPS issued a stamp to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of New Orleans, the last major engagement in the War of 1812. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (New Orleans) on the first day of issue captioned above. The addition of four older stamps which were added to the envelope with the new one and then cancelled along with the new one on its "birthday" make this a Combo. The four older stamps are a White House stamp issued in 1938, a James Monroe stamp issued in 1958, an Andrew Jackson stamp issued in 1963, and a James Madison stamp issued in 1938.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a black & white print of a painting of the battle, and an inset of Andrew Jackson, the hero of the battle. Historic, collectible, this is a great piece of military memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, this is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
