On November 18, 1988, Canada issued a stamp to honor the captain of the Bluenose - Angus Walters. Shown here is a genuine 1st Day Cover, an envelope with the Angus Walters Stamp, depicting Walters with the Bluenose under sail, cancelled from the city of issue (Lunenburg, NS) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark featuring the Bluenose, created expressly to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows a drawing of the Bluenose
under sail. The caption reads, "Angus Walters was born in Lunenburg,
Nova Scotia in 1882. He began his long association with the sea by
sailing and fishing on his father's ship, and then on ships of his
own." A brief commentary about Walters in included.
