Black Hawk.... On April 10, 1982, a private company issued a Commemorative Cover to honor one of the most notable Indian warriors, Black Hawk, war leader of the Saulks.
On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp merely serves the purpose of
supplying current postage, for without it, the post office will not
stamp a postmark. The date of April 10 represents the beginning of the
Black Hawk War, when Black Hawk
led the Saulks and Foxes across the Mississippi, back into Illinois,
interpreted by the US Army as a hostile move. The stamp was cancelled
in Rock Island, IL, the area where Black Hawk was born.
The full-color cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Black Hawk and a small
hawk. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief
commentary about Black Hawk, which we have included.
Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY PLUS COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
