Best Friend of Charleston....

On October 1, 1987, the USPS issued five stamps to commemorate the "Steam Locomotives of the Early 19th Century."   Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover in the form of an envelope, with the stamp for Best Friend of Charleston, cancelled from the city of issue (Baltimore, MD) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the card) features an illustration of the Best Friend of Charleston of the Charleston & Hamburg Line. The caption under the picture reads,  "Built in 1830, this was the first American locomotive to actually pull a train."  The company that produced this cover has also written a longer commentary printed on the back of the envelope, which we have copied and included for you.

Double matted in green & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame.   ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
