Bergen and McCarthy.... On August 29, 1991, the USPS issued a stamp to honor ventriloquist Edgar Bergen and his not-so-'dummy' Charlie McCarthy. This stamp was one of five to honor Comedians. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, designed by Al Hirschfeld, cancelled from the city of issue (Hollywood, Ca.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a drawing of the duo that charmed audiences for more than five decades. Collectible, historic, this
cover is a piece of TV and radio postal memorabilia. The company that
produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about Bergen
and McCarthy, which we've included.
Double matted in blue & white, this piece will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
