On July 25, 1997, the USPS issued a set of four stamps honoring four Legendary Football Coaches....Bear Bryant of the University of Alabama, George Halas of the Chicago Bears, Vince Lombardi of the Green Bay Packers, and Pop Warner. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover with the Bear Bryant stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Canton, Ohio - home of the Football Hall of Fame) on the first day of issue captioned above. The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows Bryant in his signature hounds-tooth checked hat. It's printed on silk, the luster lending an almost three dimensional quality to the portrait.
