On May 14, 1988, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the aviation pioneer, Samuel P. Langley. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (San Diego, Ca.) on the first day of issue (captioned above.)
The full-color 'silk' cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Langley along with an experimental aircraft he designed, the Aerodrome No. 5.
Double matted in blue and white, this piece is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included ***
