On December 30, 1980, the USPS issued a stamp to honor aviation pioneer and inventer of the aileron, Glen Curtiss. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Hammondsport, N.Y.) on the first day of issue (captioned above.)
The full-color 'silk' cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of Curtiss. Inventor, manufacturer, Curtiss was always at the forefront of aviation.
