Colette.... On June 2, 1973, France issued a stamp to honor one of
its most illustrious authors - Colette. Shown here
is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the
stamp, depicting a drawing of a young Colette, cancelled from the city of issue (Saint-Sauveur-en-Puisaye,
France....her place of birth) on the first day of issue captioned above. The unique
postmark, showing a line-drawing of Colette, was created to cancel this
stamp on its 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet
(artwork on the envelope) shows a portrait of Colette, known most for
her novel Gigi,
from which the play and musical were adapted. It's printed on
silk surrounded by a
gold embossed border.
Historic, collectible it's matted in blue & white and will fit a
standard 8 x 10 picture frame.
