On January 26, 1988, the USPS issued a stamp jointly with Australia to commemorate Austalia's Bicentennial. Shown here is a genuine Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp from each country cancelled from the cities of issue (Washington, DC and Sydney on the first day of issue and exact same date captioned above. Joint Issue - Dual Cancellation First Day Covers always have a grace period to give each country a chance to send its covers to the opposite country for the other country's stamp to be applied and cancelled on the first day. This way, both postmarks will have the same cancellation date. Note the two special postmarks from each country - an eagle tipping his hat on the American cancellation, and an ebullient koala on the Australian cancellation.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a koala and a small eagle flying the Australian flag.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
