On February 10, 1975, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the great American artist Benjamin West, who was appointed president of the Royal Academy for 30 years. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with West's self-portrait stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Swarthmore, Pa.) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a black & white reproduction of his painting "The Death of General Wolfe" as well as a small portrait of the artist. Collectible, historic, this is a great piece of American art memorabilia.
It's double matted in blue & white and will fit a standard 8 x 10 picture frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
