APPOMATTOX 1st Day Cover 5 Centennial Civil War Stamps.... On April 9, 1965, the USPS issued the last of its Civil War Centennial Stamps - Appomattox. Commemorating the end of end of the Civil War, this stamp is shown on a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp cancelled from the city of issue (Appomattox, VA) on the first day of issue captioned above. The other four Centennial Stamps in this series - Fort Sumter, Shiloh, Gettysburg and The Wilderness were added to the cover and then cancelled along with the Appomattox stamp, elevating this First Day Cover to a Combo.
The cachet (artwork on
the envelope) features drawings of a Confederate and Union Soldier, a
Drummer Boy and the two flags. A truly historic and collectible piece
of Civil War memorabilia, the envelope is first mounted using corner
mounts to preserve its mint condition.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
