Klondike Gold Rush - Nome.... On August 21, 1991, the USPS issued a 32-cents stamp commemorating the Klondike Gold Rush. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp, depicting a caravan of prospectors in the snow, cancelled from one of the cities of issue (Nome, Alaska) on the first day of issue captioned above. The other city of issue is Skagway, for which we have a separate matted 1st Day Cover in this category.
The color cachet
(artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post
office) shows a prospector panning for gold in a stream with a dramatic
mountain in the background. The picture is printed on silk surrounded by an embossed gold border.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
