Ernest J. King, graduate of the US Naval Academy, naval flier, Commander in Chief of the US Naval Fleet during WWII, and one of the few men to achieve five-star rank, was a consummate strategist. Shown here is a Commemorative Cover in the form of a Proof Card, bearing the postmark of November 23 - King's birthday, from Lorain, Ohio - his place of birth. On a Commemorative Cover, the stamp serves the purpose of supplying postage, for without it, the post office would not furnish a cancellation. The two stamps used to furnish postage are a U.S. flag stamp and the 4 cents Naval Aviation stamp issued in 1961.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features a portrait of King, a Navy destroyer, submarine, and carrier, and his five stars. Also included is a short commentary of King's career. Historic, collectible, this is one of several pieces of WWII and U.S. Navy Postal Memorabilia offered by Wall Art Collectibles.
Matted in blue, this is matted to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity and Commentary Included***
