On September 24, 1982, the United Nations issued a stamp honoring the country of Austria, with a stamp depicting the National Flag of Austria. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the city of issue (United Nations, New York) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special cancellation designed to cancel this stamp on its 'birthday.'
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) celebrates the many facets of Austria - from the Danube River, to the baroque achitecture of Vienna, to the legacy of her classical composers, to the splendor of the Alps.
