On April 14, 1982, the USPS issued a set of 50 stamps with the State Bird and State Flower of all 50 States. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp, depicting the State Bird (Cactus Wren) and State Flower (Saguaro Cactus Blossom) of Arizona, cancelled from the city of issue (Phoenix, AZ) on the first day of issue captioned above.
The full color cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) shows two cactus wrens perched on a saguaro cactus in bloom. The producer of this cover has also written a brief commentary about the wren and saguaro, which we've included.
