On December 15, 1964, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the American Radio Relay League and honoring those Amateur Radio Operators who provided emergency communications service after the Alaskan earthquake of 1964.  Shown here is a genuine Commemorative Cover, an envelope featuring the artwork of Norman Rockwell with the Amateur Radio Stamp cancelled on the day of issue (December 15th) from the city of issue (Anchorage, Alaska), fifteen years later. The stamp design combines a stylized radio wave with a portion of a radio tuning dial.

The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) depicts a little-known painting of Norman Rockwell's "Armchair General" - the April 29, 1944 cover of the Saturday Evening Post.  Thousands became devoted 'Armchair Generals", surrounded by newspapers, maps and charts, straining to hear far-away voices on short-wave bands.  Photographs of Generals Eisenhower and MacArthur are pinned to the wall, while a glass of milk and a midnight snack are at hand.

Matted in blue, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  A detailed commentary about the stamp and painting are included.
