On January 3, 1959, the USPS issued a stamp commemorating the Admission to Statehood of Alaska, having been enacted on July 7, 1958. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the stamp, depicting the map of Alaska as well as the Big Dipper and the North Star which are featured prominently on the Alaska State Flag, cancelled from the city of issue (Juneau, AK) on the first day of issue captioned above.

The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) shows William H. Seward, who negotiated the purchase of Alaska from Russia in 1867, a map of Alaska, and a native totem pole.

Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
