On February 23, 1976 in order to honor all 50 States in the Bicentennial Year, the USPS issued a set of 50 stamps depicting each State's Flag. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover, an envelope with the full-color stamp for the State Flag of Alabama cancelled from the city of issue (Montgomery, AL) on the first day of issue captioned above. On April 14, 1982, the USPS issued a set of 50 stamps commemorating the State Bird and State Flowere of all 50 States. Shown here on the same envelope is the stamp for the Yellowhammer and Camellia, the State Bird and Flower of Alabama, cancelled from the city of issue (Washington DC) on the aforementioned first day of issue. A collector obtained this cover in 1976, held onto it, and sent to Washinton DC in 1982 to have another stamp cancelled on its first day of issue, making this cover a Dual First Day Cover.
The black & white cachet (artwork on the envelope produced by a private company, not the post office) shows a drawing of the State Capitol at Montgomery and some facts about Alabama surrounded by various scenes from around the US.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8x10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
