"It is emphatically the province and duty of the judicial department to say what the law is." - John Marshal, Marbury v. Madison (1803)
On February 2, 1990, the USPS issued a stamp to honor the 200th Anniversary of the Supreme Court depicting Chief Justice John Marshall (1801-1835.) Shown here is a genuine FIRST DAY COVER, an envelope with the new stamp cancelled from the CITY OF ISSUE (Washington DC) on the FIRST DAY OF ISSUE captioned above.
The color cachet (artwork on the envelope) features the front of the Supreme Court Building and one of the statues found within. The company that produced this cover has also written a brief commentary about the stamp and listed the U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justices through 1990, which we've included. This is a collectible, historic piece of Law postal memorabilia.
Double matted in blue & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***CERTIFICATE OF AUTHENTICITY PLUS COMMENTARY INCLUDED***
