First Super Bowl.... On September 17, 1999, the USPS issued a set of fifteen stamps to represent the decade of the 1960's in their series of 150 stamp (15 for each decade) called Celebrate the Century. Shown here is a genuine First Day Cover for the stamp commemorating the First Super Bowl played January 15, 1967 at Memorial Coliseum in Los Angeles between the Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs. The Packers with quarterback Bart Starr, wide receiver Max McGee, linebacker Ray Nitchke, and coached by Vince Lombardi defeated the Chiefs 35-10. The envelope features the stamp which is cancelled from the city of issue (Green Bay, WI) on the first day of issue captioned above. Note the special postmark indicating the decade of the 1960's and The Celebrate the Century Series.
The full-color cachet (artwork on the envelope) shows legendary football coach Vince Lombardi, the Super Bowl Trophy, Packers players, and the newspaper headline announcing a Green Bay victory. This cover is extremely hard to find; the fact that the cachet features such great artwork printed on silk adds to its value. Score a winning touchdown with this piece of Green Bay Packers Memorabilia offered by Wall Art Collectibles. The producer of this cover has also included a brief commentary.
Double matted in green and white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame. ***Certificate of Authenticity plus Commentary Included***
