1ST BULL RUN Sesquicentennial 1st Day Postal Cover....

From 2011 to 2015, the USPS will issue two stamps a year to commemorate the Sesquicentennial of the Civil War.  Shown here is a genuine 1st Day Issue Postal Cover for the stamp commemorating the First Battle of Bull Run (July 21, 1861), also know as the First Battle of Manassas. The design for the stamp shows The Capture of Rickett's Battery, a 1964 painting by Sidney E. King.  The original painting is on permanent display in the Henry Hill Visitor Center at Manassas National Battlefield Park.  The stamp is cancelled from the city of issue (Charleston, SC) on the first day of issue April 12, 2011.  Note the special postmark created to cancel this stamp and the one for First Bull Run on their 'birthdays.'

The cachet (artwork on the envelope) features Pierre T. Beauregard, who, along with Joseph E. Johnston and Stonewall Jackson gave the Confederacy its first victory; and, Irvin McDowell, the Union career army officer known for his defeat. The picture is printed on silk 'framed' with an embossed gold border.

Double matted in gray & white, it's sized to fit a standard 8 x 10 frame.  ***Certificate of Authenticity Included***
